Environmental Sustainability Roadmap

Sustainability has become one of the leading buzzwords of the last decade. Being “green” is in. Now FOCUS St. Louis® has created a roadmap to help local governments in the St. Louis region improve the St. Louis community and our environment.

A 33 member citizen-based task force, convened by FOCUS, designed this action plan to be a catalyst for positive community change. It brings together sustainable best practices, resources, recommendations and case studies in a usable format to help local governments navigate the path toward environmental sustainability and a more attractive community. An improved environment is a strong indicator of a healthy and desirable community.

The roadmap comes in three forms: a 44 page full report, a 20 page executive summary and a toolkit which will allow governments to visually track their progress as they work toward a more sustainable future.

Visit our electronic newsroom for more information on sustainable projects around the St. Louis region.

Environmental Sustainability Task Force

Task Force Formation

HOK sustainable design architect Mary Ann Lazarus and former senator Wayne Goode were selected to lead the Environmental Sustainability Task Force during the summer of 2008. In October 2008 the task force began meeting to makes plans for building the region's level of environmental sustainability. The group issued its final recommendations in July of 2009.

The task force was charged with using national and local resources to identify standards and best practices that can be applied to general purpose local governments in the St. Louis region to increase their level of environmental stewardship and sustainability. The task force also created tools for local governments to understand and assess where they stand today.
