STL Leaders Speak Out

What qualities do you expect to see in a highly effective leader?

When I think about a highly effective leader, I think about someone who is open to change, open to exploring new ideas and possibilities. I think to be an effective leader you have to have thick skin. If you don’t have that when you get into leadership, you soon will because a lot of times the decisions you make especially in nonprofit management. When you make a decision for the good of the organization, it can be construed as personal. Thick skin. I think you have to have a self awareness of where are your strengths and where are your weaknesses, and be willing to know where you have weaknesses, that you can rely on other resources, and feel free to call on those. It really isn’t about knowing everything, but knowing what you know and you don’t know.
